Sailboats on Lake Pontchartrain

Stuck in a moment
so anxious to move on
all that can be seen are the vistas ahead.
Trying to stride forward
but feet seem weighted
reluctant to begin.
Perhaps one last look around
may just be in order.
One more deep breath of the air,
one last survey of the landscape,
trying to soak up
what was learned here.
The memories flood over
thick and heavy
with lucidity –
a place of trial, a place of joy,
a place of dissembling and rebuilding.
One more deep breath and the anxiousness leaves,
soon enough it will all be memory
So perhaps it’s best to not be so quick
and to make sure the essence of what’s important
makes the journey as well.

Am I not quite what you expect me to be?
Do I seem far afield
from what you anticipate?
Has my silence suggested
that we are in agreement?
And is it a jolt
to find that we are not?
Have I amiably allowed
you to believe what you wish?
Or have you simply done so
not interested in asking?
If I seem different
than you have consigned me to be
perhaps you should have taken the time
to look closer.
