Tearing
Aug 15, 2007 in Poetry
How fiercely we do cling,
to that thing we think we must have.
How fiercely we fight,
for that distant wish
that one that makes everything,
every choice,
every trade,
finally justified.
How valiently, then wildly, then desperately we fight,
for things to be as we desire
as we imagine,
until it’s finally ripped away,
completely, totally,
mercilessly and yet with great mercy.
Until we can finally see clearly
and without reservation
what was never there.
